Martinuskerk, Hillegom, Catholic church in Hillegom, Netherlands.
Martinuskerk is a Catholic church in Hillegom with a three-nave basilica layout, tall pillars, and pointed arch windows. The interior features a wooden barrel vault decorated with colorful painted designs.
The original building was constructed in 1871 as a Catholic parish church. Between 1924 and 1926, architect H.P.J. de Vries led a major renovation that added a new transept and choir section.
The church houses a Maarschalkerweerd organ from 1901 with 28 registers, first played in a concert by composer Philip Loots. This instrument continues to shape the sound of services and makes the building an important venue for organ music in the region.
The church is located at Hoofdstraat 27 in central Hillegom and serves the Holy Willibrord Parish. Visitors can easily access the building during open hours for a tour of the interior.
The bell tower contains a historic bell named Maria Josephus, cast in 1872 and weighing 825 kilograms. The bell bears depictions of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and still rings during services today.
