Rijkerswoerdse Plassen, Recreation area in Overbetuwe, Netherlands.
The Rijkerswoerdse Plassen consists of two lakes spanning 80 hectares between Arnhem and Elst, offering beaches, walking paths, and water activities.
The lakes emerged from sand extraction operations that began in the late 1970s, transforming former agricultural land into a water recreation destination.
The area hosts regular music festivals throughout the year and maintains a traditional New Year's dive event in the lakes.
The recreation area operates daily from 6:00 to 22:00, featuring paid parking facilities, a restaurant, public restrooms, and outdoor fitness equipment.
The western lake, which was the first to be excavated, contains a sand depot on its southern edge that remains from the original mining operations.
