Overbetuwe, Administrative municipality in Gelderland, Netherlands.
Overbetuwe is a municipality in Gelderland situated between the Rhine and Waal rivers, encompassing farmland, residential areas, and natural spaces. The region lies on flat terrain and is connected by major highways and railway stations at Elst and Zetten-Andelst.
The municipality was formed in 2001 by combining three separate towns: Elst, Heteren, and Valburg. This consolidation brought the three communities under a single administrative framework.
The municipality contains several villages and towns where residents gather for seasonal celebrations centered on local farm products and regional customs. These gatherings show how deeply the community connects to its agricultural roots.
The region is served by three major highways - A50, A15, and A325 - which provide good connections to surrounding areas. Visitors can also use the railway stations to access different parts of the municipality.
A specialized freight railway called the Betuweroute was built through the region in 2007 to handle cargo transport. This line was designed exclusively for freight rather than passenger service.
