Schoonderlogt estate, 17th-century estate in Elst, Netherlands
Schoonderlogt estate is a historic country house with a working farm complex in the municipality of Overbetuwe, in the Netherlands. The property combines the main house with barns and outbuildings arranged around a traditional farmyard.
The estate dates back to the 17th century, when it was set up as a rural property combining farming and residential use. During the Second World War, in 1944, American forces used it as a command post, which changed its place in local memory forever.
Visitors who walk around the grounds can spot memorial markers dedicated to the American soldiers who were stationed here during the war. These small tributes are still part of the everyday landscape of the property.
The estate is private property and is not open for drop-in visits. Anyone interested in seeing it can reach out to the local tourism office or the municipality of Overbetuwe to ask about possible arrangements.
The estate became known around the world after it appeared in a major American television production about the 101st Airborne Division. Many of the people who visit today first saw the place on screen before ever coming here in person.
