Kasteel Rosande

Kasteel Rosande is a medieval castle ruin in the river meadows near Renkum that lies largely underground today. The original structure measured roughly 34 by 29 meters and was surrounded by a wide water moat.

The castle was first recorded in 1313 as property of the van Rijsande family. French troops destroyed it permanently during military campaigns in the 17th century.

The castle's name reflects its medieval owners and still shapes how locals understand their landscape. Visitors can see how the old structure once anchored daily life in these river meadows.

The site is easiest to reach during dry periods since the terrain is flat and boggy. Sturdy footwear is advised, and the location is off main roads, so planning your route ahead is helpful.

During flood periods, the castle's foundations become visible as water fills the old moat and traces of the layout appear from above. Archaeological excavations in the 1930s recorded remaining floor sections still present at the site.
