Deurne, Town in North Brabant province, Netherlands
Deurne is a small town in the eastern part of North Brabant province in the Netherlands. The town center has a mix of older houses and newer buildings, surrounded by flat fields and farms that stretch toward nature reserves.
The name Deurne was first recorded more than 1,300 years ago, making it one of the older settlements in the region. Roads and canals built in the 19th century helped the town grow by making it easier to move goods and people.
Deurne is easy to reach by train, as the town station has connections to larger cities nearby. Once there, walking or cycling is a good way to see the town center and the surrounding countryside.
Hub van Doorne, one of the founders of the DAF car brand, was born in Deurne, and a statue in the town still marks his memory today. Not far from it, Museum De Wieger displays paintings by Hendrik Wiegersma, a local doctor who was also a painter and collected art from his contemporaries.
