Synagoge, Jewish synagogue in Tilburg, Netherlands
The synagogue features a symmetrical street facade with three window axes, flanked by arched wooden gates and decorated with rich brick ornamentation.
Built in 1874 by architect Edouard Fremau, the synagogue served the growing Jewish community until 1940 when Nazi forces damaged its interior during World War II.
The architectural design incorporates Eastern motifs influenced by synagogues in Berlin and Dresden, visible in the high windows with pointed horseshoe arches.
The religious building at Willem II-straat 20 now houses the Liberal Jewish Community of Brabant and maintains a ritual bath for ceremonial purposes.
The synagogue remains the sole liberal Jewish place of worship in the Netherlands south of the major rivers, drawing congregants from Zeeland, Limburg, and northern Belgium.
