De Lichtmis, Historic settlement at highway intersection in Overijssel, Netherlands.
De Lichtmis is a small settlement located at the intersection of the A28 highway and the N377 provincial road in Overijssel, Netherlands. The site sits between connections to Zwolle and Meppel in one direction, and to Hasselt and Nieuwleusen in the other.
The settlement was administratively divided in 2001 between Zwolle municipality to the south and Rouveen district to the north. This division reflected changing governance structures in the region.
The settlement maintains strong connections with local suppliers and agricultural traditions, featuring regional products and traditional Dutch culinary practices.
As a junction of two major roads, the settlement provides straightforward access for travelers heading in different directions. Its location makes it a convenient transit point for longer journeys through the province.
A historic waterway called the Lichtmiskanal once connected the Vecht river to the Dedemsvaart at this location. This canal was filled in during highway construction and no longer exists in the landscape today.
