De Colckhof, Nature area and Rijksmonument complex in Laag Zuthem, Netherlands.
De Colckhof is an estate and heritage complex in the Netherlands that spans approximately 40 hectares with a neoclassical mansion and landscape gardens at its center. The grounds feature mature oaks and beeches, several outbuildings, and extensive forest that covers much of the property.
The estate began as a grain storage facility and rural residence in the 18th century before receiving its current neoclassical mansion around 1850. The park was designed by J.D. Zocher Sr., a landscape designer who shaped many Dutch country properties during the 19th century.
The main building is surrounded by several structures including a semicircular tea pavilion and an ornamental duck house that reflect the lifestyle of a wealthy rural family. These smaller buildings show how inhabitants spent their time and what mattered to them in the 19th century.
A marked walking trail of about three kilometers connects the estate to the neighboring Den Alerdinck property and is freely accessible to all visitors. You can use the paths throughout the grounds and explore the place at your own pace without restrictions.
The estate maintains Lakenvelder cattle, a traditional Dutch breed that you may spot in the pastures while walking the grounds. The oak forests are harvested every 15 years using traditional coppicing methods to keep the landscape as it was managed historically.
