Kempkensberg

The Kempkensberg is a modern office complex in Groningen with two towers of different heights that shape the city skyline. The facility combines workspace with a generous green area that functions as an extension of the surrounding urban landscape.

Built in 2011, this structure replaced four older office towers that occupied the site since the 1970s and 1980s. Its name comes from a hill that once stood at this location before the modern complex was constructed.

The garden area is accessible to visitors and offers a carefully designed landscape with varied plantings that creates green space in the heart of the city. People naturally gather here during breaks or walks to enjoy the surroundings away from busy streets.

The building sits in a central location in the city and is easily reached on foot or by bicycle, with ample parking available. Access to the green area is free and provides a welcome break while exploring the downtown area.

The site features specialized windbreaks and multi-stem trees in its garden area to manage strong wind patterns that occur near tall structures. This thoughtful design makes the green space enjoyable to use even on windier days.
