Forum Groningen, Cultural center in Centrum district, Groningen, Netherlands
Forum Groningen is a cultural center in the downtown area of Groningen with ten floors spread across roughly 17,000 square meters. The building features two connected towers linked by escalators that move between different sections.
The building emerged from reconstruction efforts after World War II damage to the east side of Groningen's Great Market Square. Construction began in 2011 and filled a vacant urban space in the city center.
The center houses exhibition spaces, cinema halls, a library, and interactive areas that support various forms of cultural expression. Visitors can move between different zones to read, watch films, and view art all within the same building.
The building has five underground parking levels for visitors and separate areas for paid exhibitions and free public zones. It's best to explore the building on foot to discover its different levels and how they connect.
The building incorporates a series of vertical squares throughout its design, creating an internal street-like flow. The rooftop at 45 meters high serves as both a viewpoint and outdoor performance space.
