Huis Ravensdonck

Huis Ravensdonck is a medieval stone building in Eindhoven with thick walls and internal defensive elements, built as a residential house. The structure shows 15th-century architecture with features typical of Dutch fortifications from that era.

The house was built around 1420 and formed part of Eindhoven's city fortifications during a turbulent period. During the Eighty Years' War it also housed Spanish cavalry, which shows the site's importance in regional history.

The structure shapes the old town's character and displays typical features of medieval residential buildings from this period. People use the courtyard today for local events and markets, which brings the place to life.

The site is reachable on foot from Eindhoven's center and has clear markers and informative signs on the walls. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as the courtyard and surrounding paths are paved with cobblestones.

Excavations revealed foundations from two different time phases: one from the early 1400s and another from the mid-1400s. These layers tell us the building was rebuilt or substantially renovated at least once, which reveals details about construction methods of that era.
