The Nellesteyn tomb stands 14 meters tall on the Donderberg hill, featuring a lower brick crypt section and an upper viewing tower with Doric pilasters.
The mausoleum, completed in 1818 by architect J.D. Zocher Jr., served as the final resting place for twelve Nellesteyn family members until 1917.
The structure combines burial functions with architectural elements of Neoclassical design, including triglyphs, pediments, and decorative winged hourglasses on each facade.
Visitors can access the tower on Sunday afternoons between 12:00 and 16:00, with guided tours available for an entrance fee of 1 euro.
The tomb incorporates a dual-purpose design, functioning both as a family crypt and an observation point overlooking the forested Utrechtse Heuvelrug region.
