De Vasim

De Vasim is a large industrial building in Nijmegen with distinctive arched halls and curved roofs, originally built to produce artificial silk. The structure contains several spaces of varying sizes, with the main hall substantially larger than secondary areas.

The building was constructed in 1928 as a production facility for artificial silk by the NYMA company. After World War II, it received financial support for expansion and gained additional arched halls.

Artists, designers, and filmmakers work side by side within the halls, creating a working space for creative industries. This mix of different creative professionals shapes how the building functions today.

The interior offers flexible configurations suitable for various event sizes and visitor numbers. The tall halls with generous openings allow different arrangements and natural light.

After its time as a spinning mill, the building served as a processing facility for fly ash before its transformation into a cultural center. This unexpected intermediate use shows how industrial sites can change purpose multiple times.
