Stadhuis, Zwolle

Stadhuis Zwolle is a municipal building that combines a 15th-century Gothic structure with later additions and features a tower completed in 1452. It functions today as an administrative center and hosts civil ceremonies in its dedicated marriage hall.

Construction of the original town hall began in 1447 and continued with expansions over time. A major renovation in 1821 saw the Gothic stone facade integrated with neighboring structures.

The council chamber holds Gothic chandeliers and carved wooden cabinets dating to the 15th century, along with portraits of the House of Orange. These pieces reflect how important the town hall was as a center of power and representation for the city.

The building is easily accessible and contains a dedicated space for civil ceremonies. Keep in mind that portions of the building serve administrative functions and may not always be open to visitors.

The council chamber ceiling displays intricate wooden beam work that was created by master craftsman Johan van Campen back in 1447. These elaborate beams are supported by decorative sculptural elements that remain visible today.
