Beukbergen

Beukbergen is an estate set within wooded grounds planted with old beech trees, now operating as a conference center featuring a main house designed in English country style with four chimneys. The 18.5 hectare property contains 68 double rooms, meeting spaces accommodating up to 90 people, a gymnasium, and a restaurant.

The original estate was established in 1653 but underwent complete reconstruction in 1910 when architect Gustav Cornelis Bremer redesigned it for Baron Sloet van Oldruitenborgh. This transformation created the English-style country house that continues to define the property today.

The estate serves as a training center for spiritual care services within the Dutch Ministry of Defense, where courses and prayer services are held regularly for military personnel.

The property is well accessible by paths and the main entrance is located near the parking area, providing easy access to all facilities. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended as the grounds are extensive and worth exploring through the wooded landscape.

Hidden beneath an artificial mound within the wooded grounds is an ice cellar that once stored frozen ice harvested in winter for use during warmer months. This structure reflects the practical ingenuity of early 20th century estate management.
