De Rozet

De Rozet is a large cultural center in Arnhem's city center with a striking public staircase that connects medieval streets to the rooftop level. The building houses a library, art studios, exhibition spaces, a music school, dance facilities, a heritage center, and a community college across roughly 12000 square meters.

The building was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects and opened in December 2013. It was created to bridge the historic center of Arnhem with the post-war expansion district.

The building functions as a meeting place where people of different ages encounter art exhibitions, use the library, or join dance classes under one roof. Open spaces enable chance encounters between music students, art students, and visitors passing through.

The building uses natural ventilation, solar panels, and thermal storage systems to operate efficiently. Plan time to climb the main public staircase, which is a central feature of exploring the interior.

The facade features sand-colored concrete panels decorated with geometric rosette patterns that represent the growth of knowledge inside. This visual detail covers the entire exterior and becomes a defining symbol of the building.
