Feestaardvarken is a large concrete sculpture shaped like an aardvark that stretches 13 meters wide and stands 9 meters tall in central Arnhem. The structure consists of 13 separate sections built from a steel framework covered with reinforcing steel and concrete.
The sculpture arrived in Arnhem in 2013 as a gift commemorating the 100th anniversary of Burgers Zoo. This donation marked an important moment in the growth of public art within the city.
The sculpture belongs to the Sleutelwerken art initiative, which places contemporary artworks throughout Arnhem's public spaces. It serves as a meeting point where art and urban life intersect naturally in the city.
The sculpture is located in central Arnhem and can be viewed easily from the street at any time of day. Since it stands in a public space, there are no restrictions on when you can visit it.
The entire sculpture weighs over 150 tons, requiring careful engineering for transport and installation. This massive structure hides behind the playful aardvark form, revealing a sophisticated construction process.
