Joods Kindermonument, Memorial for Jewish children in Rotterdam, Netherlands
The Joods Kindermonument is a memorial site in Rotterdam for children deported during World War II. A semi-circular steel arch displays their names, positioned next to a preserved section of the former Loods 24 warehouse wall.
The memorial commemorates around 686 Jewish children from infancy to age twelve who were deported from Rotterdam between 1940 and 1945. Loods 24 was the harbor loading point from which these deportations to concentration camps took place.
The memorial displays the names of those who were deported and creates a place of remembrance in the harbor district. Visitors can pause here and understand the importance of this site for the city.
The site is located in the harbor district and is freely accessible, so you can stop by at any time. The nearby school organizes regular visits and school groups can explore the memorial.
Alongside the names of identified children, there is an additional plaque honoring those whose names were lost to history. This plaque acknowledges all those whose identities were not recorded.
