Zendmast Hilversum, Television tower in Media Park, Hilversum, Netherlands
Zendmast Hilversum is a concrete and steel television tower that rises to 196 meters tall with seven distinctive rings starting at 83 meters above ground. The structure contains 24 floors where broadcasting companies and telecommunications operators maintain their transmission equipment and server facilities.
An original steel tower built in 1959 and standing 70 meters tall was replaced in 1973 by the current concrete structure. A steel extension was added in 2001 to accommodate expanding broadcasting and telecommunications needs.
The tower serves as a hub for Dutch broadcasting, with multiple radio and television stations operating from within the Media Park complex. This concentration of media operations makes it a central point in the country's broadcasting infrastructure.
The tower is located in Media Park and can be viewed from various vantage points within the grounds. The site is accessible by public transportation and offers areas where you can see the full height of the structure from ground level.
The tower contains approximately 16,000 tons of reinforced concrete and features seven rings as defining visual elements, with the first ring measuring over 20 meters in diameter. These rings serve both structural and aesthetic purposes, making the tower instantly recognizable from a distance.
