CollectieCentrum Nederland, National collection storage center in Amersfoort, Netherlands
The CollectieCentrum Nederland is a large storage facility in Amersfoort that holds thousands of artworks, furniture, and historical objects from several national institutions. The four-story building houses studios where specialists restore and conserve the items.
The facility was established in 2020, bringing together collections from the Rijksmuseum, Openluchtmuseum, the national heritage agency, and Museum Paleis Het Loo under one roof. This consolidation created one of the largest and most efficiently organized storage systems for national art collections in Western Europe.
The facility houses objects that reflect Dutch life and history, from royal heritage to everyday items spanning different periods. Visitors can observe how these collections are managed and preserved for future generations.
The center is located near the A28 highway and Vathorst train station, making it easy to reach. The spaces are continuously monitored and maintained at stable temperature and humidity levels to protect the items inside.
The building was designed using an unusual architectural concept resembling a head, neck, and body, creating a striking silhouette. The restoration studios receive natural light that filters through the structure, helping specialists with their detailed work.
