Breheimsenteret, National park center and museum in Luster Municipality, Norway
Breheimsenteret sits between Jostedalsbreen and Breheimen National Parks, showing exhibitions about glaciers, climate change, and Norway's natural landscapes. The facility explains how these areas have changed and why they matter to the region.
The building was designed by architect Rolf Sande in 1993 and rebuilt after a fire in 2011, reopening in 2013. This reconstruction allowed it to become a modern place for sharing knowledge about the region's nature.
The center shows how local people have worked with glaciers and mountains for generations, using what the landscape offers. Visitors see how deeply connected the community is to these natural features.
The center opens daily from May through October and offers guided talks, visitor information, a restaurant serving local food, and a gift shop. Plan to spend two or three hours exploring the exhibitions at a comfortable pace.
The screening room shows a seasonal journey beneath and around Jostedalsbreen with images of glacier formations throughout the year. This film reveals views that only glacier hikers would normally see during their expeditions.
