Ravnedalen is a public park in Kristiansand featuring a varied landscape of lakes, rocky cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and open grassland all framed by tall spruce trees and exotic plants. Walking paths wind throughout the grounds, connecting these different natural elements and open spaces.
This location began as a military camp but was transformed into a public park between 1874 and 1878 under the direction of Colonel Joseph Frantz Oscar Wergeland. That conversion marked a shift from military use to a space open for public recreation.
The outdoor stage here hosts summer concerts and theater shows that draw people from across the region during warmer months. These events have become woven into how the community uses and enjoys this space.
The grounds are open to visitors around the clock, with a cafe located in the former gardener's cottage if you need refreshment during your visit. Multiple pathways let you choose different routes to explore the grounds at your own pace.
The granite rock faces here contain roughly 70 established climbing routes for sport climbers of different skill levels. These routes have turned the site into a destination for the climbing community across the region.
