Kristiansand Cathedral, Cathedral in Kvadraturen, Kristiansand, Norway
Kristiansand Cathedral is a Neo-Gothic brick church in the old city district of Kristiansand, Norway. It has a tall front tower and large stained glass windows that let in a great deal of natural light.
Earlier wooden churches stood on this site but were destroyed by fires over the centuries. The present brick building was completed in 1885, replacing the last church lost to fire.
The cathedral serves as the main church for the city and is used for regular services, baptisms, and concerts throughout the year. During Advent and Christmas, the interior fills with candlelight and choral music, drawing many locals and visitors alike.
The cathedral sits in the heart of the old town and is easy to reach on foot from most points in the city center. It is worth checking locally whether guided tours are available, especially in summer.
The cathedral houses one of the largest pipe organs in Norway, known for its powerful sound in the brick interior. Organ concerts draw music lovers from across the region throughout the year.
