Kilden Performing Arts Centre, Concert and theater complex in Kristiansand, Norway
Kilden Performing Arts Centre is a modern venue in Kristiansand with four performance spaces designed for different types of shows. The building houses concert halls, theater stages, and production areas integrated into a single architectural structure.
The Crown Princess Mette-Marit laid the foundation stone in 2009, with the center opening to the public in January 2012. The project arose from the city's need for a modern performing arts facility.
The center hosts three major resident organizations: Agder Regional Theatre, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Sør. Throughout the year, visitors encounter a wide range of performances, from classical concerts to contemporary theater productions.
The facility separates production areas from audience spaces, allowing smooth operations during events. Wide indoor passages enable the movement of heavy stage equipment, supporting complex productions.
A curved wooden wall made of local oak boards lines the interior spaces, referencing the oak exports that once defined this port during the 1600s. This design element ties the modern cultural venue to the city's historical trade identity.
