Bystranda

Bystranda is a sandy beach in Kristiansand situated where the river Otra meets the coast, stretching across several hundred meters of shoreline. The site features fine light sand and is equipped with recreational facilities including volleyball courts, a skate ramp, and a playground.

The site was transformed from an undeveloped waterfront into a recreational space through a major urban development project, which also led to the construction of the neighboring Aquarama water park. These changes reshaped this section of Kristiansand's coastline in recent decades.

The beach hosts Palmesus each July, drawing large crowds for live music and entertainment that turns it into a gathering place for locals and visitors throughout the region. This annual event shapes how the community connects with the waterfront during summer months.

The beach is easy to reach with direct access to changing facilities, showers, and the adjoining Aquarama water park nearby. Visitors should note that parking fills quickly during summer months and weekends tend to be most crowded.

The beach holds certification for water quality and environmental standards while maintaining a heated outdoor pool for year-round swimming. This allows visitors to take a dip even during Norway's colder months when most coastal areas are unusable.
