Tromsø bridge, Cantilever road bridge in Tromsø Municipality, Norway.
The Tromsø Bridge extends 1016 meters across the Tromsøysundet strait, connecting the island of Tromsøya to the mainland through 58 concrete spans.
When it opened on July 3, 1960, the Tromsø Bridge ranked as the longest bridge in Northern Europe and eliminated the need for ferry transportation.
The bridge construction by architects Aas-Jakobsen and Erling Viksjø introduced the first cantilever design in Norway, receiving the Betongtavla award in 1963.
The structure includes dedicated paths for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides, with a width of 8.3 meters accommodating vehicle traffic in two directions.
The Directorate for Cultural Heritage protected this prestressed concrete bridge in 2000, preserving its original engineering characteristics for future generations.
