Øvre Pasvik National Park

The park spans 119 square kilometers of land containing ancient pine woodlands, shallow lakes, and peat bogs in the northwestern part of Siberian taiga.

The protection of this natural area began in 1936, but the official establishment as a national park occurred on February 6, 1970, with an expansion in 2003.

Archaeological findings in the region date back to 4000 BC, followed by Norwegian immigration around 1850 that led to land development changes.

The national park contains no marked trails, and visitors need GPS devices for navigation through the landscape of forests, lakes, and bogs.

The temperature in this northernmost virgin forest of Norway can drop to minus 45 degrees Celsius during the winter season.
