Oksskolten, Mountain summit in Nordland, Norway
Oksskolten is a mountain in the Okstindan range in Nordland and reaches 1916 meters in elevation. The peak has steep rocky walls with glacier fields and offers broad views across the mountain ranges of Northern Norway from the summit.
The summit was first documented to be climbed in 1883, marking the start of organized mountaineering in this region of Northern Norway. This early ascent established the Okstindan area as a destination for mountain expeditions.
The Norwegian Trekking Association's Hemnes chapter maintains the mountain's hiking traditions by organizing guided summer ascents for experienced climbers.
The climb is technically demanding and requires equipment such as crampons and ropes on snowy or icy sections. Visitors should be well prepared and have mountaineering experience, as the route is unmarked and challenging.
On clear days the view from the summit extends to the Swedish border and includes the Vega islands and the Lofoten mountains in the far distance. This exceptional long-range visibility makes the peak a special vantage point in this region.
