Pluragrotta, Submerged cave system in Rana, Norway
Pluragrotta is a submerged cave system in Rana in Norway that extends through 3000 meters of limestone and marble, reaching depths of 135 meters below ground. The passages run through multiple levels with narrow fissures and larger chambers accessible only by diving.
Finnish divers established a connection between the submerged part and the dry cave Steinugleflåget in September 2013. This discovery clarified how the two sections connect within the limestone massif.
Diving specialists travel from many countries to explore the water-filled passages and document geological formations inside. The system attracts those interested in technical cave diving through crystalline rock layers.
Water remains cold throughout the year, and diving gear suited for confined spaces is necessary to navigate the passages safely. Only certified cave divers with experience in technical environments should attempt entry.
A wedding ceremony with 69 participants took place in a submerged chamber in 2019, setting a Guinness World Record. All guests wore dry suits and dived together to attend the celebration underwater.
