Nordmarka, Recreation area north of Oslo, Norway
Nordmarka extends across 430 square kilometers of forested terrain, featuring rolling hills and peaks reaching heights of up to 719 meters above sea level.
The area belonged to the Norwegian Crown during medieval times before becoming property of St. Mary's Church in Oslo during the 1300s.
The forest serves as an essential component of Oslo residents' lifestyle, with numerous marked trails supporting year-round outdoor activities throughout the seasons.
Visitors can access over 450 kilometers of prepared ski trails during winter, while summer offers extensive hiking paths and multiple lakes for swimming.
The Norwegian Parliament enacted the Marka Law in 2009, specifically designed to protect this natural region and maintain its recreational value for future generations.
