Nittedal Teleport, Satellite ground station in Hakadal, Norway
Nittedal Teleport is a satellite ground station in Hakadal, Norway, operating with over 50 antennas for broadcasting and telecommunications. The largest antennas on the site reach up to 18 meters (about 59 feet) in diameter and are pointed toward satellites in orbit.
The station was founded in 1986 and over time grew into the largest earth station in Norway and across the Nordic region. As satellite communication expanded in Europe, the site took on a greater role in the regional network.
The station helps people in remote parts of Norway receive television, radio, and internet that would otherwise be hard to access. In the northern regions of the country, where other infrastructure is sparse, this kind of connection makes a real difference in daily life.
The site is an active operational facility running around the clock, so visitor access is restricted for security reasons. The array of antennas can still be seen from the surrounding road without entering the grounds.
Among the satellites the station links to are Thor 5, Thor 6, and Thor 7, which together cover a large part of Europe with broadcast signals. Because the station connects to several satellites at once, transmission stays reliable even when one of them has a problem.
