Frostisen, Plateau glacier in Narvik Municipality, Norway.
Frostisen is a plateau glacier covering a broad area in the Narvik region with elevations between roughly 840 and 1,710 meters (2,756-5,610 feet). The ice field slopes gradually and is bordered by rocky peaks and deeper valley areas.
This glacier formed during earlier ice ages and has changed significantly since then. Its movement and meltwater have shaped the mountain landscape over thousands of years.
Local Sami communities have long held connections to this glacier and the landscape around it. The ways people travel through and use this terrain reflect generations of knowledge about the region.
The glacier is accessible from the E6 road, with marked trails leading through fields and along rivers to viewpoints. The terrain is demanding, so visitors should prepare with proper gear and experience.
Five different lakes surround this glacier and together form an interesting water system. These lakes depend on the glacier's meltwater, creating a special landscape.
