Brønnøysund Bridge, Cantilever road bridge in Brønnøy Municipality, Norway.
The Brønnøysund Bridge is a cantilever road bridge made of prestressed concrete that connects the island of Torget to the mainland. It crosses the Brønnøysundet strait and carries traffic along the Fv54 regional road.
This bridge opened in 1979 and became an important transportation milestone for the Nordland region. The prestressed concrete design allowed for a direct connection between island communities and the mainland.
The bridge serves as a connection point between communities, linking residents to the historical fishing traditions and maritime heritage of the Norwegian coastal region.
The bridge provides about 30 meters of clearance beneath it, allowing sailboats and smaller vessels to pass underneath. It serves as the main route for cars and trucks traveling between the island and the mainland.
The structure comprises 20 spans with a main opening of 110 meters, which stands out strikingly across the northern Norwegian coastal landscape. This design reflects the engineering solution needed to allow maritime traffic below while carrying road traffic above.
