Brønnøy Municipality covers approximately 2000 square kilometers of diverse landscape including coastal islands, fjords, mountains, and forests with its administrative center in Brønnøysund.

Established in 1837, Brønnøy Municipality has roots dating back nearly 900 years as a church site and parish farm, with the nearby Torgar area serving as a significant gathering place for Norse chieftains around the year 900.
