Skinnarbu, Mountain resort in Telemark, Norway
Skinnarbu is a mountain hotel sitting at about 1000 meters elevation between Rjukan and Rauland in Telemark. It has 40 rooms overlooking the Hardangervidda plateau, surrounded by mountain terrain and water.
The hotel began as a simple mountain lodge and gradually expanded into a modern facility. Through renovations over the years, it maintained its role as a center for traditional Norwegian highland hospitality.
The place draws on Norwegian mountain culture by offering skiing, hiking, and local food experiences that reflect how people have lived in these highlands. Visitors can see how such traditions shape daily rhythms and activities at this elevation.
The hotel is reached by car from either Rjukan or Rauland, each about an hour away. Visitors should prepare for mountain weather conditions, which can be harsh in winter months.
From June through October, guests can take the Fjellvåken boat across Møsvatn Lake and see traditional mountain farms along the way. This boat journey offers a glimpse into how the region was settled before modern accommodations existed.
