Saupstad, Residential district in Heimdal borough, Trondheim, Norway
Saupstad is a residential district located about 10 kilometers south of Trondheim's center, within the Heimdal borough. It includes the neighborhoods of Kolstad and Huseby and contains schools, shops, and green spaces serving the local community.
Saupstad farm was recorded in 1530 under archbishop ownership and later passed to the crown before being transferred to the Schøller family in the 1660s. In the 20th century, the area transformed from farmland into a modern residential neighborhood.
The name comes from Old Norse 'saup', meaning buttermilk, and reflects the agricultural past of this former farmland. The neighborhood still shows traces of its rural roots in how it is laid out and developed.
The neighborhood is well-connected by public transport and easy to reach from Trondheim's center. It has schools, shops, and parks that serve daily needs for both residents and visitors.
The neighborhood was a finalist among three contenders for Norway's most attractive place designation in 2021. This recognition reflects how the local community has developed and values its living environment.
