Dharan clock tower

Dharan clock tower is a five-story structure located in the center of Bhanu Chowk marketplace, rising approximately 76 feet (23 meters) above the surrounding area. An observation platform at the top provides views across the city and surrounding region.

The tower was completed in 2005 as part of an urban development initiative supported by Nepali immigrants living in Hong Kong. The project demonstrates how connections between diaspora communities and home regions helped shape modern infrastructure.

The tower serves as a daily gathering spot where residents meet and celebrate local occasions. People use this central location to navigate the city and come together for community events.

The plaza surrounding the tower is busy with shops, restaurants, and buses connecting to different parts of the city. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon when the area is less crowded and climbing the steps is more comfortable.

A memorial near the tower honors people who lost their lives in the 1988 earthquake, connecting this modern structure to a tragic moment that shaped the region. The site thus carries both marks of progress and remembrance.
