Chataradham, Hindu pilgrimage complex in Pindeshwor, Nepal
Chataradham is a temple complex in Pindeshwor situated between the Koka and Koshi rivers, housing multiple shrines dedicated to Hindu deities including Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. The complex provides lodging for visitors, meditation spaces, and connects to Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City by a paved road.
The site developed into a major pilgrimage destination and hosted significant religious gatherings, including Kumbha Melas in 2003 and 2014. These major festivals marked important moments in how the place gained prominence within Hindu communities.
The site holds special meaning during the Bolbam festival when pilgrims carry water from the Kamala River to perform ceremonies at the temples. These regular observances shape how local and visiting communities connect with their faith and traditions.
Visitors can stay overnight and use meditation areas, which makes extended visits straightforward. The site is reached via road from Dharan, making it reasonably easy to access.
The site experiences the Shahi Snan ritual once every twelve years, when millions of believers gather to perform sacred bathing together. This rare occurrence temporarily transforms the place into one of the region's largest religious gatherings.
