Kankalini Temple, Hindu temple in Saptari District, Nepal.
Kankalini Temple is a stone shrine in Bhardaha, Saptari District, Nepal, dedicated to the goddess Durga and located along the Mahendra Highway. It features traditional Nepali architecture with carved decorations on its walls and pillars, and sits in an open area that is easy to reach.
The temple was built after workers digging foundations for a new settlement in Bhardaha found a stone statue of the goddess Durga in the ground. Local residents considered this a sacred sign and chose to build a shrine at the exact spot of the discovery.
The temple draws Hindu pilgrims from Nepal and India, especially during major festivals when people travel long distances to pray and bring offerings. Visitors can watch rituals with flowers, incense, and oil lamps being carried out in front of the main shrine.
The temple is open year-round and can be reached on foot from the Mahendra Highway, as it sits in an open area with no major obstacles. Visiting during one of the major Hindu festivals gives a much fuller sense of how the place is used and experienced.
The temple is recognized as a Shakti Peetha, a site in Hindu tradition where the goddess is believed to be directly present rather than merely represented. This sets it apart from many other shrines in the region and explains why pilgrims travel from so far away.
