Namaste Falls, 80-meter waterfall in Bhedetar, Nepal
Namaste Falls is a waterfall in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality, in the hilly Dhankuta region of eastern Nepal, where the water drops sharply over a rocky cliff in a single stream. It can be seen from several spots nearby, giving a clear view of the full drop.
The waterfall has been known to people from the surrounding villages for many generations and was an early point of reference in the Dhankuta area. Over time, it gained recognition among travelers coming from farther away.
The name of the waterfall refers to the traditional Nepali greeting "Namaste", in which both hands are pressed together in front of the chest. Locals say the shape of the falling water mirrors this gesture, which gives the place a personal meaning for those who visit.
The waterfall is reached on foot from Bhedetar, and the path gets noticeably steeper as you get closer. There are no shops or rest stops along the way, so it is worth bringing water and food before you set off.
When sunlight hits the falling water at certain angles, small rainbows form near the base of the drop. The effect is most visible when you stand close to where the water lands.
