Maasin, Provincial capital in Southern Leyte, Philippines

Maasin is a city on the coast of Southern Leyte, Philippines, with flat areas by the sea that gradually change to mountains inland. The city spans different landscapes and offers a mix of coastal and interior terrain.

Jesuits founded their first church in the early 1700s and managed the settlement, but Augustinian missionaries took control in 1768. This shift in religious leadership marked an important turning point in how the community developed.

The Cathedral of Maasin displays religious architecture from the 1800s and shapes the city's skyline with its presence. It reflects building traditions that still influence how structures look in the city today.

The city has two national ports that enable ship traffic and a small regional airport nearby. Visitors can use these connection points to explore the region or travel onward to other areas.

A statue of the Virgin Mary rises from the landscape and is visible from the sea, where it serves as a landmark for ships. This artwork was created to mark a spiritual presence in the region.
