Cuyugan-Dayrit House, Heritage House in San Fernando, Philippines
The Cuyugan-Dayrit House is a residential building with a stone foundation and wooden upper stories located along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Dolores. The structure combines colonial architectural elements and shows the craftsmanship quality from the 1920s with preserved details in the facade and roof construction.
Joaquin Dayrit y Singian, a sugarcane farmer, and Maria Paz Cuyugan y de Leon built this ancestral house in 1920 during the American colonial period. The property was later inherited by their eldest daughter Luz Dayrit y Cuyugan, who married a man from Bacolor and continued the family's agricultural tradition.
The building sits along MacArthur Highway and displays architectural features from the 1920s that were built by local craftspeople using traditional methods. The structure reflects how prosperous families in that era lived in the region and designed their homes as signs of status and permanence.
The house is easily accessible from MacArthur Highway and remains open for external viewing. Visitors should note that this is a private residence, so respecting the personal space of inhabitants is important.
The property was designated as a Heritage House by the National Historical Institute through Resolution No. 5 on January 27, 2003, receiving official recognition for its regional importance. This designation protects the structure from demolition and underscores its historical role in the city's development.
