Jusay Ancestral House, Historic residential house in Sampaloc, Philippines.
Jusay Ancestral House is a two-story residential building in Sampaloc constructed with narra wood throughout its interior and exterior woodwork. The roof is covered with galvanized iron sheets while the outer walls are finished in cement.
The house was built in the 1920s and financed by a lottery prize. During World War II it served as headquarters for Japanese military officials before American forces temporarily occupied it following their victory.
The house reflects traditional Philippine building practices from the 1920s era. Interior rooms connect through numerous doorways that shaped how occupants moved through daily life and used the spaces.
The eastern section now operates as an eatery and is open to visitors. Since the current owner is considering selling the property, it is advisable to verify in advance whether the building is available for viewing.
The building earned the nickname Door House because of its many interior doorways. It contained a basement with a secret passage that has since been sealed with cement.
