Initao–Libertad Protected Landscape and Seascape

The Initao-Libertad Protected Landscape is a coastal and marine area featuring limestone forests, coral reefs, cliffs, and sandy beaches along Iligan Bay in Misamis Oriental. It includes accessible caves, forest trails, and Lasang Secret Adventure Park with its elevated boardwalk for visitors.

The Philippine government designated this protected landscape in 2002 to preserve old-growth forests and marine ecosystems in western Misamis Oriental. The establishment addressed growing concerns about habitat loss and environmental degradation in the coastal region.

Fishing communities work within specific sections of the reserve, maintaining their livelihood while participating in conservation. The blend of daily fishing activities and protected nature creates a working landscape where both traditions and ecosystems endure.

The four accessible caves can be explored at varying difficulty levels suited to different fitness abilities and experience. Forest trails and the adventure park boardwalk are best visited during daylight hours, and sturdy footwear is advisable for all activities.

The reserve shelters century-old trees including molave and teak that grow rarely in other regions, creating a distinct forest composition. These ancient trees provide essential habitat for rare animals like Philippine megapodes and tarsiers that depend on this specific environment.
