Baliangao Protected Landscape and Seascape

Baliangao Protected Landscape and Seascape is a protected area combining a marine sanctuary with mangrove forests and elevated wooden walkways. The site features diverse coastal habitats that can be explored on foot or by boat.

The area started as Misom Sea Sanctuary in 1991 and received official protected status in 2000. This designation recognized the importance of both marine and forest ecosystems.

Local people use this area for environmental education and nature monitoring activities. Visitors can observe how communities here work together to care for their natural surroundings.

Visit during calm weather and bring snorkeling or diving gear if you want to explore the underwater areas. The wooden walkways are easy to navigate on foot and offer good views of the mangrove forest.

The area contains more than 20 different mangrove tree species in one location. This variety makes it a rare example of ecosystem complexity in the region.
