Quirino Grandstand, Public grandstand in Rizal Park, Philippines.
Quirino Grandstand is a concrete structure on the western side of Rizal Park designed to accommodate approximately 10,000 spectators. Architect Juan M. Arellano created the facility with a straightforward, functional design that efficiently organizes large crowds.
The facility was built in 1946 to commemorate the Philippine independence declaration from the United States. Federico Ilustre directed a comprehensive renovation in 1949 that modernized and reinforced the structure.
The grandstand serves as the traditional venue for Philippine presidential inaugurations and national celebrations, where citizens gather for significant occasions. It embodies moments of community and national pride that hold meaning for many people.
The venue is located in the Ermita district along Independence Road and is accessible via multiple public transportation options from across Metro Manila. Visitors can easily reach it from various neighborhoods using local bus routes and rail connections.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the venue transformed into a drive-through testing and vaccination center. Thousands of Manila residents received medical services there, demonstrating how the space adapted to urgent community needs during an emergency.
