Manila Ocean Park, Marine theme park in Ermita, Manila, Philippines
Manila Ocean Park is a marine theme park and aquarium in Ermita, Manila, Philippines. The facility presents animals from the Pacific in several zones, including a tunnel with curved glass panels that allows visitors to walk beneath the water.
The facility opened in March 2008 after nearly one year of construction. The project was led by China Oceanis Philippines Inc. to provide the city with a large public aquarium.
The park's name reflects its position along Manila Bay, where the grounds once formed part of the waterfront promenade. Today the facility blends recreation with education, as local school groups and families often visit to learn about ocean life.
The entrance sits behind the Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park, near the waterfront. Visitors can come in the morning or afternoon, as the doors stay open from nine in the morning until late evening.
Above the tanks stands a hotel with rooms that have windows into the water. Guests can lie in bed and watch fish swim past the glass.
