Ramon Magsaysay Center, Office building in Malate, Philippines.
The Ramon Magsaysay Center is an office building in Malate that rises 18 stories along Roxas Boulevard. Its travertine-clad exterior features slender ground-level columns that face Manila Bay, creating an open feel at street level.
The building was designed in 1967 by architects Alfredo Luz, Pietro Belluschi, and Alfred Yee Associates. It held the title of the Philippines' tallest structure for just one year before being surpassed by another development.
The center houses the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, which recognizes leaders and organizations across Asia for their achievements. Visitors can learn about the significance of these regional honors and their impact on communities throughout the continent.
The building includes a main hall that can accommodate about 250 people and smaller conference rooms for groups. Its location on Roxas Boulevard makes it accessible, and parking is available in the area.
The building uses an innovative structural system with pre-cast, pre-stressed beams that function like tree roots extending deep into the ground. This design approach allowed the impressive height while minimizing the space taken up by supporting columns.
