Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway, Cable-stayed bridge in Cebu, Philippines.
The Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway is a cable-stayed bridge in Cebu, Philippines, extending roughly 8.5 kilometers from Cebu City to Cordova Island. Two concrete pylons standing 150 meters each support the main span of 390 meters and hold the steel cables from which the deck segments hang.
Construction started in 2018 by a consortium of ACCIONA, First Balfour, and DM Consunji Inc and created the third land link between Cebu and Mactan. Before completion, vehicles had to rely on two older bridges or ferries to travel between the islands.
A 50-meter metallic cross rises from the water below the roadway and marks Ferdinand Magellan's arrival in 1521. This religious symbol connects engineering with the Catholic tradition of the archipelago and remains clearly visible when driving across.
The expressway has four lanes, two in each direction, and handles around 50,000 vehicles daily between the city and Mactan International Airport. The connection shortens travel time and relieves other bridge routes, especially during rush hours.
An advanced beam launcher system lifted 110-tonne segments into position during construction and used geometric control methods for millimeter-precise placement. This technique accelerated the building process considerably and reduced risk during assembly over open water.
